I have been working on a Peter Lorre calendar for 2009 and I have my prototype ready! Please come to my journal at http://doloho.livejournal.com/ to get the pdf of Dec.2008. More months are coming soon!
I've been looking through the archives here all the way back to the very first post, and I decided to join, being a newbie Peter fan. I can see that it's been really inactive here as of late, but I wanted to join and introduce myself anyway. :)
Name: Jasmine Age: 15 Location: Southeastern US How did you first become interested in and/or obsessed with Peter Lorre? Well, it all started when I saw M on TV. I really liked it, but sort of forgot about it. Not too long ago, I watched it again, and I was hooked. What is your current favorite Peter movie? Hmmm...currently it's Arsenic and Old Lace. But I've only seen five or so of his films, so that will probably change soon. What do you like most about Peter? His incredible acting talent (of course), his accent, and the general loveliness that he personifies on the screen. If you could meet Peter, what would you say to him? I wouldn't be able to speak. I'd just stare at him anxiously until he left, and then I'd hate myself for years to come for not saying anything. Which Peter characters would you most and least like to be stuck with in an elevator? Hmm, that's a tough one. Most: Joel Cairo, Kentaro Moto, Abbott, The General. (Even though The General would be kind of annoying, his smexiness would make up for it.) Least: Hans Beckert. Other interests: Music in general. I'm in honors chorus at school, and I love the Beatles like nobody's business. I also take German in school, and I love it. This may have made my affection for Peter even stronger, because I love his native language so much. Share your website?: None.
After filling that out I've realized how few Peter films I've actually seen. I must remedy that.
Just making one of my elusive posts to alert everyone that I Was An Adventuress will be on the Fox Movie Channel at the ungodly hour of 6 AM Eastern Time on Friday, August 31st! If anyone hasn't seen this delightful film, in which Peter and Erich von Stroheim play a lovable pair of con artists, I urge you to set a timer and tape it. It's a must for any Peter Lorre fan; you'll wish that he and Erich von Stroheim had made about 13 more films together. :)
Showings of this are really rare (I'm told the last time was on AMC about 15 years ago), so don't miss it because goodness knows when they'll play it again!
I have been spending a lot of time on You Tube lately, watching videos of Peter, some of which I know have been posted there by people from this group. I wanted to say a heartfelt "Thank You" to everyone who's posted videos up there so people like me can see more of the adorable and very talented Peter Lorre. (I also just downloaded my own copy of "M", which I'm saving to watch while Hubby watches the hockey playoffs.)
You can never have too much Peter, and I'm so glad there's such wonderful video on YouTube. ^_^
Well, I spent last evening watching The Man Who Knew Too Much, My Favourite Brunette and The Maltese Falcon (again.)
After so much exposure to so much delicious Peter-ness, I can only say that I want to be Abbott's confidante...I want to be Kismet's favourite brunette...and oh, dear God! I want to be Joel Cairo's umbrella... ^_^
::blissful sigh:: So much Peter, so little time...
I just joined, so here are my replies to the questions:
Name: starrigan Age: 40. FORTY!!! (As of last month. I'm still traumatised.) Location: Newfoundland, Canada How did you first become interested in and/or obsessed with Peter Lorre? Mmm, probably The Maltese Falcon and that thing Joel Cairo does with the umbrella... (Can I say that? Is this community for adults? ::grin::) What is your current favorite Peter movie? I loved him in both Falcon and Arsenic and Old Lace but I'd happily watch him read the phone book. ^_^ What do you like most about Peter? His talent and his beauty. It's an equal split. If you could meet Peter, what would you say to him? "You are amazingly talented. Ignore the naysayers, and keep doing what you do. And thank you - a thousand times, thank you." Which Peter characters would you most and least like to be stuck with in an elevator? It's hard to say, really... Other interests: I'm a novelist. Don't know if that counts as an interest...I'm a cinephile with a special love of film noir. Share your website?: http://ca.geocities.com/mooncradle2000
Hey, people with TCM! They're going to show Mad Love and The Beast With Five Fingers back to back on Halloween afternoon/night.
Mountain time: 3:00 and 4:30 Pacific time: 2:00 and 3:30 Central time: 4:00 and 5:30 Eastern time: 5:00 and 6:30
I'm really excited about this now that I live somewhere with cable TV, because they are both such wonderful, perfect films for Halloween! So just sit back, enjoy some candies wrapped in seasonal ghoulish colors, and enjoy. And invite the kids. When I was seven or eight I would have LOVED The Beast With Five Fingers.
(Side note: the TCM schedule lists Mad Love as "horror" and The Beast With Five Fingers as "suspense." Two reanimated dead hands is horror, and one reanimated dead hand is suspense? I don't get the logic either. :D)
